where did the mayan's live?
Early Maya people lived in villages. We are going to study the Maya that lived between 250 - 900 A.D. By this time, the Maya lived in big city states. Each city state was governed by its own king. A city state included the city itself and the farmland around it. Cities of the Maya were very big.
Scientists estimate that some of them had between 10,000 - 60,000 people living there. Each big city had temples and pyramids. They also had big houses and palaces for rich people and many small houses and huts for poor people. There were also markets in the city. A Maya market would have looked something like a Flea Market looks today. Maya people traded and sold food, jewelry, pottery, weapons, tools, clothing, and many other things in their markets.
